The new regulation will enter into force from July! Thanks to a new regulation, it is mandatory to install EDR systems in passenger cars to store data on traffic incidents and accidents! This box will help the authorities to accurately reconstruct road accidents, which until now has only been used in connection with aeroplanes!
The regulation will also apply to passenger cars of class M1 and commercial vehicles of class N1, which can carry eight people in addition to the driver, as well as pick-ups and vans with a gross vehicle weight of less than 3,500 kilograms.
The black box will be installed by the manufacturers in a hard-to-reach place, presumably in the airbag base unit, thus preventing the device from being switched off. The system is activated when the airbag inflates or the seatbelt tensioner is triggered: it stores information shortly before and after the crash, such as seatbelt use, speed, accelerator and brake pedal position, engine speed, steering angle, safety system activity and airbag deployment time.
Perhaps this box will alert road users to be more careful! Many people are now also installing on-board cameras in their cars to help them investigate a possible accident!
In the first quarter of this year, there were 113 road accidents in which 124 people lost their lives! Most of these tragedies are due to violations of the right of way and speeding!
124 people is a very high number, but still less than last year. Unfortunately, however, there were even more accidents!
