New truck parking on the M1 in Tatabánya!

A new guarded truck parking lot for 150 vehicles is being built on the M1 at Tatabánya, at the old town exit! The car park has received 50% non-repayable direct EU funding. The contractor is Tatabánya, Parking Kft.

Earthworks will start in April 2023 and the opening is planned for 2024. It will be possible to accommodate protected cargo and segregate vehicles carrying dangerous goods. There are plans to install a hydrogen filling station – the first public one in Hungary – and 17 electric charging stations to serve electric cars.

The aim is to build a modern facility with many amenities, including a driver’s shelter, restaurant, security fence and a permanent reception service on the 6 hectare site.

This section of the M1 motorway is extremely congested and there is probably not a day without an accident, often caused by lorries and trucks. We hope that many people will use this parking lot, which will provide a niche and a peaceful resting place, and that traffic will become calmer and safer!

Although in the long term, it would be ideal to divert the Hungarian section of truck traffic to the railways! As our site is located right next to this section of the motorway, we will experience the possible positive/negative effects after the construction, we will report on it
