The most important news is that from 1 January this year, the refundable tax has almost tripled!
This sounds great, but if we also know that it was 3.5 Ft before, then we can see that the overall result is not significant, unfortunately! But you have to be happy with the little things!
On 30 November 2023, the Autumn Tax Package 2023 was published in the Hungarian Gazette No. 171, which, among other things, amended Article 113(5) of Act LXVIII of 2016 on Excise Tax (Act on Excise Tax).
Accordingly, if the world market price of Brent oil published by the NAV does not exceed the level of USD 50 per barrel, the refundable tax rate is HUF 10 per litre for commercial gas oil purchased at a petrol station with a fuel card or filled via an electronic meter from a tank equipped with a fuel dispenser at a domestic site (if the price of Brent oil exceeds USD 50 per barrel, the refundable tax rate is HUF 20 per litre).
The right to a refund of the tax arises on the day of purchase or refuelling at the place of consumption and may be exercised up to 5 years after the month of purchase or refuelling at the place of consumption.
